“Wash your hands before eating dinner!” is something many of us grew up hearing from our parents. We may have grumbled, but we learned from an early age the importance of washing our hands. Then early in our healthcare profession, nurses learned that washing hands correctly is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of disease and to stay healthy. Infection prevention sounds simple, and it is, but yet there’s much more to these practices than meets the eye.
Not only are preventable infections a huge patient safety issue, but hospital-acquired infections may not be reimbursable, just like readmissions. This makes infection prevention practices vital for patient safety and hospital bottom lines. Infections are largely preventable, especially when detailed processes exist, and all the dots are connected faithfully. Handwashing is a prime example.
Join our Inspirien Risk team during May and June as we explore Infection Prevention. We will be sharing information through webinars, as well as emails and other tools. Topics will include information on Infection Prevention Strategies and Bloodborne Pathogens. We will also explore how infection best practices align with the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program.
